What Schiff was saying about being a nation of consumers instead of producers is true. For an assignment in an economics class I had to look at the GNP numbers and interprate them. It was easy to see that 1974 was the last year the U.S. actually produced more than it consumed. After so many years of consuming more than the U.S. produced a recession was inevitable.
