A little while back, the Morning Joe show on MSNBC showed the fundraising efforts of the Republic Presidential candidates. Take a look at the image they showed on that program:
Notice who’s missing from that image? Ron Paul. Why? Was it because he had such low fundraising that he didn’t even beat Gingrich on the bottom and therefore didn’t even make the chart? Nope, he had raised more than all the people on there, except Mitt Romney. Some of the other candidates hadn’t reported their fundraising and so they were not included on the list, but Ron Paul did, and got 2nd place. Yet, MSNBC left Ron Paul off the list, completely ignoring him.
Only 3 days ago we had the Ames, Iowa straw poll. This poll is always seen as a crucial one for determining the likelihood of success of presidential candidates. Ron Paul got 2nd place, barely missing 1st place by less than 200 votes! The third place candidate got less than half the votes Ron Paul got. In fact, the third place candidate, Tim Pawlenty, did so bad that he dropped out of the race after seeing the results of the straw poll. So you can see that, according this important straw poll, there really are two major contenders for the Republican presidential nomination, Michelle Bachman and Ron Paul (see poll results here). Yet, what do we get from the mainstream media? Crickets when it comes to how well Ron Paul is doing. They keep either downplaying how much support he really has, or they completely ignore him. It’s been scary to see how far the media has gone over the last few days to ignore Ron Paul or just simply give him no credit whatsoever.
Here is Jon Stewart from the Daily Show showing how bad the media has been over the last few days since Ron Paul’s huge success at the Iowa straw poll:

I really enjoy Tom Woods: his speeches, his books, his blog posts, and video blogs. He recently made this video talking about the upcoming Iowa Straw Poll and how important it is for presidential candidates to do well in it. He talks about how this is such a great opportunity for supporters to defy the establishment by voting for Ron Paul and lists the reasons why you should support Congressman Paul.
Tom Woods is very good at articulating the most important information and doing it in a way that just makes sense. Please listen to his argument in favor Ron Paul here. I’m sure you will learn a thing or two because the media sure won’t (at least, never has) accurately describe Ron Paul and his positions:

This video shows how amazingly accurate Ron Paul’s predictions were about the economy, the wars, and the reactions to these by government, and the right and left. These predictions go back to 2001! The video also compares his words to those of other leaders at the same time, showing how clueless they were and still are about the causes and effects of current events. It’s awe-inspiring the foresight Ron Paul has because of his profound understanding of the universal principles he advocates.
No other presidential candidate even comes close to understanding our economic and political climate better than Ron Paul. Support and vote for Ron Paul for President in 2012!

I wrote another letter to my representatives (Rep. Jeff Flake, Senator McCain, and Senator Kyl) regarding the provisions of the PATRIOT Act that are up for renewal. The beginning of the letters varied slightly, but here is my letter specifically to Rep. Jeff Flake:

I just wanted to share this video to highlight a few things. Ron Paul has not officially announced his run for the presidency yet, but has formed an exploratory committee and it’s a pretty sure bet that he will run again in 2012. I’m super excited and so are all of his grassroots supporters. This year I think it will be different than in 2008 when he was relatively unknown. The media is going to have a harder time convincing everyone that he is crazy and has no support because now, virtually everyone knows his name and has seen him on TV and heard his message. However, I don’t think that will stop the media from at least trying to persuade the public that he is not a good option. I think this year they will continue to use deceit and even lie, like they did last year because he is the ultimate anti-establishment candidate. The establishment is not afraid of Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Donald Trump, or any of these guys because they ARE the establishment and will protect the status quo. With any of these other candidates, nothing will change. We will still print and spend massive amounts of money, still fight endless and ever-increasing wars, and our civil liberties will continue to erode under a big-brother, nanny-state.
True to form, Fox News is already starting their deception by trying to make Ron Paul look bad. Here is what happened a few months ago at CPAC 2011 when Ron Paul won the straw poll for presidential candidate for the 2nd year in a row (watch the whole thing and see the actual result towards the end):

I recently read a post from one of my favorite tech/life websites, Know Your Rights as a Passenger to Avoid Getting Screwed When Flying. While I love the website for it’s great tech and life tips, when it comes to politics and economics, that site is pretty clueless. The post starts out, “The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) released a new version of the flyer’s rights bill this week, requiring airlines to treat you a little better.” So, according to the site (and the government), the government bullying airlines into doing stuff for us is now a “right”. This is a good example of how the government and many people think regarding the origins of rights. To them, rights are simply a gift from one man to another, or from one class of men (the ruling class, a.k.a. the government) to another (the lowly serfs, a.k.a. the general public).
Below the article I read a few of the comments and many were equally ignorant of the source of our rights. A few people were discussing the benefits of socialism and how in the United States we can sometimes be extreme at adhering to capitalism and the Constitution. I couldn’t hold my tongue and had to chime in and here is the comment I posted in response below (I’ve added emphasis here, the original comment on the site was not allowed to include it):

For Rhiannon’s birthday this year I surprised her with a petting zoo of baby animals. I had her family and some friends gather at park down the street from our house and had the petting zoo set up and waiting for her. As we came around the corner and Rhiannon saw everyone and the petting zoo she was super surprised. Everyone, and especially Rhiannon, had a blast and she was in heaven with all the little goats, pigs, ducks, and chickens. Here are all the pictures:

I receive emails from DemandProgress.org and sign many of their petitions because they have been making a strong effort to stop government takeovers of the internet and such. So far I have agreed with every petition and cause they have fought for since I signed up because I feel they have furthered the cause of freedom. However, today, I got this email from them and had to send a response. Their email is below and my response follows:

The PATRIOT Act supporters are at it again. Since the last vote unexpectedly failed, they have changed the rules to allow it to pass with a simple majority vote this time (it required 2/3 vote to pass last time). Now they are bringing it up for vote again before the provisions expire on February 28th. I have emailed my representative again, a 2nd time, to try to persuade him to vote against extending any of the provisions of the PATRIOT Act up for renewal. Here is my 2nd letter:

This is an excellent talk discussing religious freedom and law. It does not have an LDS focus and should be watched by all: Mormon, Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, etc. I especially appreciate the continued inclusion of Muslims in his speech as worthy of the same religious freedoms as us all.
I think all types of people will find this interesting as he speaks about the societal shifts of definitions and views of religion and how moral relativism has lead to the decline of religious tolerance. He brings up many current events, like Prop 8, and discusses specific individuals’ opinions within the government, including the Obama administration and Obama himself.
