I found this scorpion in my home office around midnight, Dec. 30, 08.
UPDATE 2/7/09: Here’s a photo of the scorpion that I couldn’t find earlier:
This is the 15th scorpion we have found INSIDE our house since we bought it a year ago. This one was real small. As you can see in the video, I put my foot next to it so you could better see it’s size. This is an Arizona Bark Scorpion and they’re nasty. They are especially nasty because, according to Wikipedia:
The Bark Scorpion is the most venomous scorpion in North America, and its venom can cause severe pain (coupled with numbness and tingling) in adult humans, typically lasting between 24 to 72 hours.
While nearly all scorpions are solitary, the Bark Scorpion is a rare exception: during winter packs of 20 to 30 scorpions can congregate.
The bark scorpion is unusual in that it is the only species in the southwest that regularly climbs walls, trees, and other objects with a sufficiently rough surface. Bark scorpions…preferring an upside down orientation, which often results in people being stung due to the scorpion being on the underside of an object.
Sorry the video is a little dark.
