When I was 3-4 years old, my family and I lived in Alaska. We first lived on a tiny island called Craig (was this our house?), and then later in Anchorage. Though I was very young during that time, it was such a vivid place to live that I have many memories of growing up there. While living in Craig (I believe), there was a night when my dad called all of us to follow him outside. We walked out to the street and turned around to face the house. I remember my dad had picked me up and was holding me when he said to everyone, pointing at the sky, “Look, the Northern Lights.” To this day I can recall how beautiful it looked seeing the green, blue, and purple lights waving across the dark sky that night.
If you’ve never seen them, they are gorgeous. I came across this video clip of the Southern Lights in Antarctica awhile back and it reminded me of that night. Even though this clip is from the other side of the world, the music and stop-motion photography is so well done, it’s the best clip to share the beauty of this phenomenon.
